What can I say, this venue looked fantastic as well drove down from the hills above the harbour, just look at the view below we had before our eyes.
We decided to fish off the left hand side wall, and I dropped Neil and the gear off whilst I returned up the hill some 200ft from sea level to the car park (£1 all day!).
Look at the magnificent views we had from our point on the wall, what more could you ask for from a venue, excluding fish of course!
So we setup, posed for a couple of stock photos and off we go on the highly anticipated Lyme Regis fishing event :-)
So Neil baits up to try his luck….
The sod only goes and catches a fish! Alright it was certainly not any Great White, but it was a fish!
The species we think is a Whiting.
Neil poses with his first catch of the day!
Check out the teeth on that fish, I thought it was only Piranhas that had teeth!
The fish was returned safely to the sea to carry on with its natural life, we are after all responsible fishermen.
Not deterred by this I managed to bag a rather horrible crab, vicious little bugger it was! As it had eaten alot of our bait we decided this little blitter would become bait! Alas it wasn’t to be, its shell was much harder than imagined! When Neil liberated it on the wall, it about turned and scuttled towards him, then squaring up with call outstretched as if to say “Come and have a go if you think your hard enough”, well unfortunately for the “thug” crab, Neil came pre-armed with a big f$%k off pair of boots which hoofed said crab out to sea with some force! Have some of that!
So our trip to Lyme was called to a halt, as we decided to change venue to Budleigh Salterton, not influenced in anyway by the lure of some home made food from my parents.
Off we went to Budleigh, on the slowest “A” road in the UK, stuck behind a combine harvester that refused to pull over for ages, and at one point actually started rolling backwards. After 50 minutes we arrived at our destination of Budleigh, first impressions were good!
So we fished, and caught nothing for a while, then my parents turned up and we had lovely fish and chips from a well recommended fish and chip shop. Just what the doctor ordered…!!
Then the unthinkable happened, Neil (yes not me) caught ANOTHER fish!!! This time a Pouting!
Of course he couldn’t help but rub it in!
The fish was returned unharmed to the sea to continue its life.
I was content at this point to star gaze, as it was jet black and the stars we so bright that night (including some shooting stars). Neil decided to cast out for one more try, and low and behold….
Yes fish number 3, a Pollock, which was returned unharmed.
So then remained the long drive home, for which I was so very tired! Next trip is the Severn Estuary on Friday evening, maybe then I will finally catch something other than a crab!
