A Very Wet Night At Severn Beach

Sunday evening saw us pick up rod and tackle to head for a 13m tide at Severn Beach. The weather had held out during the day, and was pretty nice to be honest. All that changed when I arrived at Neil’s house to collect him, as it pissed down!

By some freak of nature Severn Beach appeared to be in a separate weather climate and was actually dry and nice when we arrived, weird or what! So we headed to our usual haunt to start an evenings fishing.

As usual Dave was first to set up, and didn’t even wait for the tide! Above you can see him wading in the mud at the water's edge! There’s no way I was getting covered in mud for the sake of 20 minutes wait!

Dave’s tenacity paid off as he was first to pull in the coveted seaweed attached to rock!

The localised weather climate was about to change, Wales was disappearing into a black abyss over the water. We were in for a right downpour!

 

Neil soon joined Dave with the seaweed! Just me to go! The tide is creeping in at a manic rate of knots!

 

The tide kept coming… along with the waves below! By now myself and Neil had suited up for the downpour about to arrive and the waves!

  

It was time to move all the gear up, before it was washed away!

Dave wimped out on getting soaked by the waves, and went up top! To be fair his rod stand wasn’t ideal for the steps! He caught an eel, and a codling!

I got soaked by a rogue wave all down my suit front! It was a laugh overall, even if we didn’t catch anything (well me and Neil)!

Dave “Rex Hamilton” Thurlow is streaking away now with 19 for the year! Not closely followed by Neilboy on 8, and me on a paltry 5!

10oz Weight prototypes for boat fishing

A group of us are off fishing on a boat in Weymouth on the 18th June 2010.

To avoid spending a fortune on 10oz leads Neil came up with the idea of making our own using 500ml drink bottles and cement! I took it one stage further and bought some fast setting postcrete from Wickes, which sets in no time at all!

So here are a couple of rough prototypes, I have a really good once but it has no wire attachment in it (so I didnt take a photo).

Both of these are not of very good finish as I removed them from the plastic cup I made them in too early!

The first one has a 30lb fishing line attached to the metal part of a clothes peg, giving it good grip internally.

So here is prototype number two modeling a nice 13amp wire which is knotted inside the cement with some paperclips twisted around the knots for extra grip.

 

All change again!

After a few changes to the layout, i have reverted back to a more simple look.

So apologies if the pictures are not lined up correctly, but from now on KISS rules apply (Keep It Simple Stupid!).

a day out fishing at Lyme regis

The team trip was to Lyme Regis for a nice comfortable days fishing, in dry weather (although not too hot I must say!).

The unthinkable happened, we arrived before Dave did by over an hour! Even then we didn’t have our fishing rods in the water (well I didn’t!).

Here’s Neil with the most complicated floating rig known to mankind, although it did work!

Neil decided to take a closer look at the water to see if any fish were about, it didnt prove conclusive

Dave as ever tries his hardest by spinning.

A large group of school kids turned up all threatening to jump in the water, it was a bit pathetic really, but a brave few did! It must have been freezing!

Now during the spinning that Dave did on the beach, some idiot in a boat managed to catch my line on the way into the harbour, a real worzel looking prick who didn’t ought to be allowed to captain a boat! When he realized his error he backed up without looking into Neil’s float contraption! Which then meant that he wrapped Neil’s weight around his propeller! The twat even had the cheek to try and kick off, he got a right royal “F$ck off” from the pair of us!

Oh, did I say we’d had two lots of junk food during the day, well 3 if you include the McD’s Double Sausage & Egg McMuffin! We ate twice @ Herbie’s on the seafront…. it was very nice!

Severn Beach Provides Yet More Action

So on the eve of my daughters birthday we all slipped down to Severn Beach for a quick session on a 12.9m tide.

The weather on Sunday morning did not look promising with rain and wind, but it dropped off during the day. Me and Emma whizzed down to Veals before her party to get some squid & ragworm for the evening session.

Yet again the ragworm were friggin enormous! They were not only long, but big and fat with it too!

So we met up at 19:45 in the normal spot, well Dave turned up on time, got fed up waiting and went fishing on the rocks! We eventually turned up about 25 minutes late, but perfect for the tide in our normal little spot!

So the games begin..

Here we have DT not prepared to wait for the tide, and it paid off for him as you can see by the fish hanging off his line!!

The end count for the night was 4 codling to Dave, 2 to Neil, and bugger all for me!
