Fishing Trip No.2 – Severn Beach / Aust

As I now have a nice shiny new rod and reel, courtesy of a blinding purchase from a car boot sale by Neil, it was too long to wait until the 10th of July to christen it.

So after a bit of a tour of Aust, and going down a  gippo’s lane that locked with a big gate (tense moments there…), we ended up in Severn Beach with a view to fish between 21:30 and 01:00.

It was very rocky, and very muddy there! I dropped my rod in the mud before I’d even used it! It was minging!

Needless to say we didn’t catch anything, but we did have bites on the lines, and if it weren’t for the poxy rocks we may have reeled something in!

I lost 3 rigs and weights, Neil lost 1 also on his first cast. Mine were down to being tangled in the rocks.

Roll on Chesil Beach, no mud, no big bloody rocks, and hopefully lots of lovely fishes……

Here are some photos for your amusement…

Then midnight passed, and we had to move to the concrete steps…

Sea Fishing in Torcross Devon

Friday saw the long awaited fishing trip to Devon to do some beach fishing.

Four of us went from work, Dave Thurlow (tall one in pics), Neil Bedford (not so tall one with fishing suit on in pics), myself and Dave Hume (mostly in tent during pictures! But in the rare few he is wearing shorts!).

The venue was Torcross on Slapton Sands (which is ironic as there isn’t any sand that i saw anywhere!).

A late getaway and stop in Sainsbury’s meant that we missed any chance of hot food when we arrived, but we had a nice drink to chill out from the 150 mile journey. The lady behind the bar in the pub was nothing short of a miserable cow! She swore blind she had not seen Dave Hume in the pub, which had nobody else in it!

Anyway now it was time to start setting up on the beach for a night of relentless fishing, catching loads of fish!

Now we were all setup it was time to catch all the millions of fish that we had expected to catch….

So with nothing caught so far, a quickish trip to the pub for takeaway “cod and chips” to help warm us up and get us through the night! Dave Hume has managed so far to fish from his chair, and still get further than any of us casting his rod!

JOINT FISH CAUGHT TOTAL: 0

The night and weather and descending upon us, and Dave Hume’s mate turns up with a Blue Peter style campfire, which was nice once it finally caught light.

Whilst peeing in the sea in the dark I managed to get a massive booty, trainer and sock socked! So I used the fire to dry it out, likewise so did Dave Thurlow..

JOINT FISH CAGHT TOTAL: 0

By 1.30am I had enough of sitting on a very damp and cold beach, Dave Hume had been in his tent for sometime sleeping, and snoring like a herd of wilderbeast :-)

I went back to my car to get warm and managed a whopping 2.5 hours sleep, and woke up colder than I went to sleep. By this time there was no hot food and nowhere to buy any! I would have loved a hot sandwich of somekind!

JOINT FISH CAGHT TOTAL: 0

At last dawn was upon us, and maybe a change of fortune for the fishing, or maybe not…. for the record at this point we haven’t seen Dave Hume since the night before (we certainly heard him!).

The mackerel taunted us by performing stunts in the water as it glistened when the sun broke through the clouds, alas still the proved impossible to catch….

JOINT FISH CAGHT TOTAL: 0

So at 7.30am we left Torcross completely empty handed! It was fun evening (for those who stayed awake most of it!). Chesil Beach or somewhere with some fish next time….

Enjoy the pictures, and watch out for the next update

Bristol Zoo… first time in over a year

Today we all went to Bristol Zoo between the rain, I renewed the annual membership for Emma’s birthday (from money given by people).

There’s not a lot that has changed but, they are building a rope walk that allows over 5’s and up to walk around an aerial walkway suspended by wires in a harness, over and near animals and such like.

Anyway here are a couple of pictures from the visit…

Emma with her favourite crisps, called “Bum Crisps” as the packet has naked women’s bums showing (as the crisps are naked, no salt!).

Me and Emma… ahhhh

Here are some pictures from a little area called Explorer’s Creek which is great fun with water for smaller children, although it was freezing cold and blowing a gale when we where there!

Emma’s First Tooth Is Out……

After a week of wobbling, thanks to biting on a Kinder Surprise a little too hard, Emma’s tooth finally came out today :-)

Tooth fairy tonight….

Out with the old… in with the new….

Last Friday my old Indesit washing machine flooded the kitchen twice, so in a moment of inspiration I plumbed it in outside the back door to cover the period until the new one arrived :-)

Here is some evidence.. the water it leaked at the end of the cycle was crystal clear, so outside it just ran into the drain.

Today the old machine was taken away, so Emma posed with it to say goodbye to 15 years of service…

Here she is with the new one, all shiny with lots of buttons…

Oh and a close up for the technophiles….. mmmm buttons….

Just trying the 60 minute fast wash, which was reduced to 40minutes just by selecting 30 degrees instead of the standard 40 :-)
