Sea Fishing in Torcross Devon

Friday saw the long awaited fishing trip to Devon to do some beach fishing.

Four of us went from work, Dave Thurlow (tall one in pics), Neil Bedford (not so tall one with fishing suit on in pics), myself and Dave Hume (mostly in tent during pictures! But in the rare few he is wearing shorts!).

The venue was Torcross on Slapton Sands (which is ironic as there isn’t any sand that i saw anywhere!).

A late getaway and stop in Sainsbury’s meant that we missed any chance of hot food when we arrived, but we had a nice drink to chill out from the 150 mile journey. The lady behind the bar in the pub was nothing short of a miserable cow! She swore blind she had not seen Dave Hume in the pub, which had nobody else in it!

Anyway now it was time to start setting up on the beach for a night of relentless fishing, catching loads of fish!

Now we were all setup it was time to catch all the millions of fish that we had expected to catch….

So with nothing caught so far, a quickish trip to the pub for takeaway “cod and chips” to help warm us up and get us through the night! Dave Hume has managed so far to fish from his chair, and still get further than any of us casting his rod!

The night and weather and descending upon us, and Dave Hume’s mate turns up with a Blue Peter style campfire, which was nice once it finally caught light.

Whilst peeing in the sea in the dark I managed to get a massive booty, trainer and sock socked! So I used the fire to dry it out, likewise so did Dave Thurlow..

By 1.30am I had enough of sitting on a very damp and cold beach, Dave Hume had been in his tent for sometime sleeping, and snoring like a herd of wilderbeast :-)

I went back to my car to get warm and managed a whopping 2.5 hours sleep, and woke up colder than I went to sleep. By this time there was no hot food and nowhere to buy any! I would have loved a hot sandwich of somekind!

At last dawn was upon us, and maybe a change of fortune for the fishing, or maybe not…. for the record at this point we haven’t seen Dave Hume since the night before (we certainly heard him!).

The mackerel taunted us by performing stunts in the water as it glistened when the sun broke through the clouds, alas still the proved impossible to catch….

So at 7.30am we left Torcross completely empty handed! It was fun evening (for those who stayed awake most of it!). Chesil Beach or somewhere with some fish next time….

Enjoy the pictures, and watch out for the next update
