Severn Beach 5am bst or 4am if you didnt change your clock

The lure of a good tide at Severn Beach was enough to coax the three of us out of our beds at a ridiculous hour on Sunday morning.

The high tide was at 05:30am in old time,or 06:30am BST.

Now the problem was I went to bed at 12.15am old time, giving me a whole 2hrs 45mins before I had to get up.

So I collected Neil at 04:30 (old time) or 05:30 (BST) and off we went to Severn Beach.

We had £12 worth of Ragworm, and a box of squidly diddly… so off the Severn we went.

It was bloody cold and fairly breezy too.

So baiting up and off we go again…..

Neil is off to a flyer with two codling on his first cast and with his new two hook flapper rig! Caught on squid and ragworm, both fish returned to the sea alive and kicking

Then the unthinkable, a fish for me!! Only a little codling, but a fish none the less… returned to the sea unharmed

Neil catches yet again, this time probably putting him on the no.1 spot for largest fish caught this year!!

5 a.m Severn Beach… Are We Mad??

So it was Mother’s Day, and what do we all do??? We go fishing, you got it right!!

Dave had a cracking 3 codling from the trip! You can see them in the pictures below! The last one was the biggest.

This time we fished our usual spot, and then sneaked in a little extra off the rocks, waste of time for me and Neil, but DT caught his biggest codling there!

I had a nice nibble on my line, but alas, nothing there when I pulled it in!

Looking forward to the proper fishing trip, Severn Beach just isn’t enough, but its better than nothing!

On the way back home I popped into my sisters for a quick shower (as the bathroom is still out of action!), and as a bonus she gave us a bacon sarnie! Sweet!!!!

Oh yes here we go again... mental dash is back! Worse still my needles for fuel/temp/speed are now stuck all over the shop (and I checked 8 hours later, its still the same!).... trip to Reeds, Trowbridge me thinks!

Captain Cod :-)

Tonight the unthinkable happened, I caught a fish at Severn Beach! Not only a fish, but a codling as well!

Me and Neil had planned to go out fishing this evening due to the reasonable tide height, and the weather being good for the time of year, even if it was chilly!

Both of us got a chance to try out the balaclava’s, and Neil even put his hat on top again!

We sat chatting about how we’d put hours into fishing down here and that it ought to give us sommit back….. then we saw my rod moving, so I pulled it in to find this little fellow onboard! He was returned alive to the sea, to swim off to live a fruitful life after I took these photos.

Maybe this is why Neil’s not catching, he had all his worms on one string :-)

After the evenings  fishing we took a walk along the front to lookout for some other spots!
